Most of us enjoy the occasional game of bowling. You go out with friends, hurl a ball down the lane at 10 innocent pins, hoping for the all mighty strike so you can jump for joy in celebration of your triumph. While you’re there you might order some greasy, fried food from a limited concession menu and a beer or lackluster drink that isn’t necessarily exactly what you may have wanted. Bowl and Barrel is here to refresh your ideas on these outdated trends and keep you coming back for more than the game itself.
Opening in December 2012, Bowl and Barrel at The Shops at Park Lane, introduced Dallas to a new style of group fun that encourages bowling for the non-bowler. Here you can come with a small or large group, birthday party, or corporate event and find yourself wanting to stay for the signature food and craft cocktails. Everything served is prepared daily including all fruit juices squeezed fresh from actual fruit, they even make their own grenadine!
If you’re like me and jump at the chance to drink anything bubbly, you should definitely try the French Kiss. Prosecco, St. Germain, fresh lemon juice, and that house-made grenadine make a classy cocktail for the sophisticated Dallasite.
For all you “dudes” out there, the Lebowski is a bowling standard. Take a few sips of this appropriately named White Russian, and you’ll be paired with the best drink for your bowling adventure.
Can’t decide what drink you want? Bowl and Barrel knows how crucial choosing the right drink can be and so for that reason you can ask for a Barkeep’s Whimsy. This takes all the pressure off you and lets the bartender call the shots…literally!
Does gourmet food come to mind when you plan a night out of bowling with friends? Like most of us you probably go out to dinner then hit the bowling alley. Well folks, Bowl and Barrel is here to change that. For a starter, I absolutely fell in love with the Giant Pretzel. A warm, soft, out of the oven pretzel, sprinkled with sea salt and served with an in-house spicy mustard or with Texas Fondue by request.
Looking for a farm-fresh appetizer option? The Fried Quail are Texas raised, battered with chickpea flower and cayenne, with a side or ranch.
Bowl and Barrel also offers Meat and Cheese Boards. Butcher boards come with 4 cured meats, sliced baguette with house mustard and spicy cippollnis.
The Cheese Board consists of 4 very different styles of cheese also served with a sliced baguette, seasonal chutney, and local honey. Want to combine the meat and cheese board for the ultimate feast? No problem, just ask!
Bowling sure does work up an appetite! Bet you’re geared up after all those strikes to order a restaurant inspired meal like the Fish and Chips. Cod filets battered in tempura, hand cut fries that are cooked at a higher temperature to ensure crispiness, served with malt vinegar, this dish is sure to reinforce the labor of love that goes into everything Bowl and Barrel presents.
The Chicken Apple Club is an over-sized sandwich with garlic roasted chicken, bacon, avocado, organic greens, tomato, and green apple slices in between two pieces of sourdough bread. This monster sandwich is sure to satisfy your hunger while bringing unique flavors together.
At first glance you may wonder why there is only one dessert on the menu. No, your mind isn’t playing tricks on you! There is in fact only the Butterscotch Pie. Why? Because it’s so impeccable nothing else could compare. With absolutely no baking required, sweet vanilla cream combined with sea salt caramel, gingersnap cookie crumbles, and house made whipped cream this creamy piece of pie is justified in being the king of sweets.
So next time your searching for your next night out or perfect location for an event, check out Bowl and Barrel. Happy Hour is Mon-Fri where you can get selected drinks and food items for only $3! It is suggested that a lane reservation is made for Friday and Saturday nights!
