Cocktails, Menu Review

A Damn Good Burger!

Most of Dallas loves going to Oak Lawn to hit up the gay bars with friends but let’s be honest, dining isn’t the initial appeal. Sure you can grab a late-night hot dog but what about lunch? I recently went to JR’s and found out they have a damn good burger.

Lunch and Happy Hour is the best time of day, right? You don’t have to deal with the drunk late-night crowd or the infuriating task of parking while navigating around said drunk people. And to be honest, being home before the sun goes down is something I’m appreciating more and more so I’m not completely useless the following day.

I’ve been to JR’s more times than I can count, taken many Jameson Pickle Backs alongside my cocktail, and never knew, or would have thought it would now be a go-to burger joint.

There’s such a sense of pride, love, and acceptance in Dallas and that feeling emanates as soon as you enter JR’s. There was a drag queen in full make-up at the bar sitting beside a fun-loving older gentleman enjoying a cold beer on a hot Texas day. I took my seat at the bar (after looking around for prime photo spots of course) and began looking over the menu. It’s not extensive, but that’s something I absolutely appreciate. I could live off burgers, y’all. I pride myself as being the burger expert of DFW and get asked for recommendations all the time, so I went all out. Cheeseburger with Bacon (duh), LTPO, Mayo and Mustard and a side of Crinkle Cut Fries. Every burger is made to order on a grill behind the bar so it does take a minute to get your hands on it, but trust me, it’s worth the wait!

When my food was brought to me it came with ranch! I didn’t even have to ask. This is very important to me and the first time it’s ever happened.

The burger is pretty big so I could only eat half (had the other half later that day) and I washed it down with JR’s signature cocktail, the Phuckleberry. Bacardi 151, Blueberry Schnapps, and Cranberry, this will sneak up on you! All and all a lovely afternoon on Oak Lawn!

I didn’t personally order one, but I saw several salads being delivered to tables and they looked incredible! So if you’re in the mood for something on the lighter side, they’ve got you covered!
